i need to throw out props to demetri martin's new show,
important things. i only really laugh hard at the skits, but the whole show is just a great experience. it's like if wes anderson made a short comedy show. lots of text thrown onto the screen, 8mm sequences, funny demonstrations. it all just works really well. if you've never seen demetri do stand up, you'd probably think this show is a lot funnier. if you're used to seeing his drawings and jokes based on wordplay and equations, then this is old hat, though the jokes are still good.
Another great thing about this show, is the amount of work that demetri apparently puts in personally. his handwriting and drawings pop up all over the place, as does his music throughout the show. obviously, he has to go out and film all of the odd segway sequences and set up all of the cards and cartoons.
